HNL 1019: Australia's New Governor General 1914
18 May 1914 Arrival of Sir Ronald Munro Ferguson on launch at St Kilda pier. Meeting Prime Minister Joseph Cook and his cabinet on pier. Men and women walking along pier, some in military uniform. St Kilda's mayor presents address of welcome. Handwritten script of speech. Crowds cheer including children. Governor and wife into open topped carriage with others. Escorted by cavalry along street. Greeted by South Melbourne's Mayor. Parade along Bourke Street and arriving at Federal Parliament House. Stand for national anthem on steps. After swearing in ceremony (not seen), Governor inspects guard of honour. Leaves in carriage.
